APPLICANT #12: Joe Nadeau

Joe Nadeau is a 25-year-old from Edmonton.

Here is Joe's video application:

Here is Joe's current situation:

Oh, hello... Didn't see you there. Because I can't. Because this is the internet, and I'm just typing.

What, you think I'm psychic or something? Like I can just totally see people from who knows how far? Astral projecting into your study?

Okay, I'll admit, that was me in the bushes with the binoculars, but whatever. Forget about that!

My name is Joe Nadeau, and guess what; I'm fantastic! It's true! My mom tells me so. Your mom, too.

For the past year I've been living off saved funds. Why would I do that? Don't you need a job to afford things? Not if you're thrifty. Besides, who really wants to work anyhow? I don't. I'm lazy. I'd rather spend time on things I like to do.

I can paint, write, make music and basically do whatever I want with my days, then just hang out at night with friends. It's not like I have to wake up early the next morning.

And that's awesome. So awesome! Don't you want to be so awesome? You probably do, because that would be awesome. Did I say awesome enough yet? To get you awesomely pumped? I awesome well hope so.

Here is Joe's blog post:

Paste your application blog post: Hey, this is a blog post. I'm writing a blog post, about something that matters to me, here on my blog post. Have you written a blog post before? You may have!

The thing about blog posts is that you can write whatever you want. WHATEVER. And that can sometimes lead to serious boredom. Lots of people just write huge posts about what they had for breakfast or who their favourite Spice Girl is or whatever. The thing about that is, nobody really cares. That's boring. Nobody wants to read about that boring stuff. Because they will snooze.

Okay, maybe if you are really witty or entertaining or something. Celebrities don't count, because everybody loves reading anything about celebrities.

Anyhow, most people are not as funny and charming as they think. I mean, check out this post. It stinks so far, but it's trying so hard.

What you have to do to get a successful blog is to focus on some niche market. You want examples? A few blogs I frequent focus on certain topics, IE: halloween themed music, golden age comics, b-movies (grouped by decade), indie fashion girl outfits, awesome tapes from Africa, etc etc.

By focusing on this small section of entertainability they gather a crowd that wants to hear specifically about this one thing.

Another big booster to popular is that most of these blogs provide entertaining content, not just big rambling posts *coughcoughcough*. I, myself, run a blog that focuses on showing people that anybody can make music. I do this by creating songs mostly with garageband, and posting them up. I encourage other people to create their own songs (by whatever means) and post those as well. Perhaps, one day, I will expand the blog into something more involved with reviews and featuring independent bands and whatnot, but for now...

Listen, to make a long story a little bit longer, when you are making blogs entertainment has to be your primary function, and information your secondary. If you want to just write about your life get a livejournal or something. I hear people still use those. Or just post on your Facebook. Just get outta my blogspot!

Joe
