New poll: Are you going to vote?

Hello everybody! I hope this Monday finds you well-rested and ready to finish this last week of February in style!

In case you're wondering, Jere and I are still in the middle of the selection process for our vehicles' names! The two winning entries will be announced on Wednesday!

According to the results of last week's poll, 66% of Y&F poll-takers believe that if involved in an accident, distracted drivers should not face the same charges as drunk drivers.

This past week, a related newspaper story kept jumping out at me.

It was about the acquittal of a British Columbia man who had caused a car accident back in 2003 after falling asleep at the wheel. Three people were killed in the crash.

Interestingly enough, Justice Louise Charron had this to say about the situation:

"...Driving is inherently risky ... if every departure from the civil norm is to be criminalized, regardless of the degree, we risk casting the net too widely and branding as criminals persons who are in reality not morally blameworthy."

Something to reflect upon as the distracted drivers poll comes to a close.

This week's poll anticipates the upcoming provincial election in Alberta. The question is simple: Are you going to vote on March 3rd?

Whenever election time rolls around, young voters (like us!) usually get a bad rap. We're often seen as apathetic when it comes to politics.

Do you think this is true? Post your thoughts as a comment below and make sure to answer the poll!

P.S. If you're looking for some good online Alberta election resources, both CBC and CTV Edmonton have some pretty solid "Alberta Votes" pages with political updates and information about the various parties, their leaders, and their platforms. Check it out.
