Pork and Beans
Depending on your tastes in music / level of obsession with YouTube, you might have heard about Weezer's latest venture into viral online video.
Weezer created a music video for the song Pork and Beans, which is a track off of their self-titled Red Album out in stores today. Releasing a music video to promote an upcoming album may not sound like anything out of the ordinary, but Pork and Beans is making waves because it showcases YouTube mega-stars.
That's right – the Numa Numa guy, the Mentos-and-Diet-Coke experiment, Miss South Carolinathe Evolution of Dance guy – they're all in the video. Some even have lip-synching roles.
I personally find the Pork and Beans video extremely cool, mostly because it allows me to justify being such a YouTube junkie: dudes.
"But... but... if I had done my homework instead of watching YouTube videos all through graduating year, I would never have been able to point out the 20+ YouTube allusions in the Weezer video!!"
It makes me feel like I'm a part of something avant-garde. I know it's just the internet, but still.
I also think the video is cool because it sort of has the whole American Idol thing going for it... you know, a bunch of regular people uploaded videos to YouTube, and now they have limitless online fame AND get to star in a music video for a major band.
Anyways, check it out for yourself:
The video – which was posted only two weeks ago – already has over 5 million views on YouTube.

Happy watching!
