Webthing of the Week: Fanpop.com
Today’s Webthing of the Week was submitted by Cheryl D.
By e-mail (hint hint).
Though past Webthings have been related to finding new music and unearthing the mysteries behind food, this week’s site, www.fanpop.com, is all about selectively obsessing over pop-culture (come on, we all do it).
After registering a profile with Fanpop, you use their search engine to find things that you are a fan of (television shows, movies, people, places, brand names, books, sports, foods, video games… virtually anything).
Each topic has its own “spot”, or page. The spot acts like a hub for related content of all kinds: videos, images, poll questions, web links, forums, headlines, and even “soapbox articles” written and posted by other fans. You build up your profile by becoming a fan of different spots, and by contributing or rating content.
Optionally, you can get involved in the social networking aspect of the site by connecting with fans that have similar interests.
Basically, if there’s anything you like to obsess about, there’s likely to be a group of people on Fanpop that can hook you up.
Have a great weekend (don't forget: Sunday is the last day to answer this week's poll) and happy surfing!
