Webthing of the Week: Last.fm

For those of you who made a resolution this year to discover some new tunes while staying within your musical comfort zone, Last.fm is a great resource.
After getting a free profile, you click on the Listen tab and punch in a favourite band. Lastfm will stream music from that artist, and from artists with a similar vibe.
Optionally, you can register and download the Lastfm application (learn more about the application here). It keeps track of songs you play on your computer and matches you up with other users who dig the same musical styles.
Personally, I just leave the browser window open in the background while I’m surfing the net (it’s like listening to a customized mix CD), and when a good song comes up, I check out who it’s by and look out for their name the next time I’m at the music store.
