Webthing of the Week: Mahalo.com

Mahalo.com (which means thank you dot com in Hawaiian) is a very cool human-powered search engine.

Whenever you search a topic, Mahalo.com returns links that are organized, relevant and hard to find on regular search engines. Say goodbye to crappy content and deceptive sites – Mahalo ensures quality, novelty, and convenience.

How do they do it? Every link that shows up on a Mahalo search has gone through an editorial process (meaning actual people choose the links and organize them). As a result, your search digs up a handful of cool new sites instead of pages and pages of unrelated links.

Helpful Mahalo Tip: Shorter Searches work best.

If you start with a general search term, Mahalo will do all the work in categorizing all the results.

For instance, type in ‘soda’ and you get a ton of links categorized as follows: The Mahalo Top 7 (recommended links), Recipes, Brands, Blogs and Forums, News and Articles, Popular Culture, History and Trivia, and Merchandise. Whether I want to watch it, read about it, make it, buy it, or discuss it, Mahalo points me in the right direction.

Mahalo is also interactive. By creating an account, you can submit your favourite pages for inclusion, contribute content to search results, and share your favourite links with your friends.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
