“Where we’re going, we don’t need… roads.”

Have you ever wished that for just one day you could have the Delorean with the flux capacitor from Back To The Future? I know that I would.

I know that if you talk to your past self when you time travel, you can cause a possible universal paradox in which the universe explodes… but what the hey. If I went back this would be my exact dialogue with my younger self:

Old Myles: Listen buddy, you know all of the change you have in that Buzz Lightyear piggybank, hold onto it. When they release mini-disc players, DO NOT buy one. There will be something called an HD-DVD player, it may seem like the better choice, but you are WRONG.

Young Myles: … I just wanna ride my bike-cicle Mr. But if you’re hungry my mum’s making grilled cheese for lunch…

If the universe imploded because of that conversation, I truly apologize. Though I think my little self would have taken the advice to heart.

There are just so many BAD ways to lose GOOD money.

The thing I’m really trying to get at here is impulse buying. That is the core of a lot of financial problems and if you are careful you can curb it.

It is important to have money in your savings account and to keep track of that money. A good rule of thumb is to put 10% of every paycheck into the bank. Then if you’re ever in financial trouble, you can dip into your savings and don’t have to worry about paying back “Big Leon” or sleeping with the fishes.

Watch your impulse buying, and save before you spend.

Then the next time you look in your wallet, you won’t find yourself looking up at a cashier and saying, “Yeah, about that $150 of groceries you just rang through…”

See you soon with my new weekly section, “My Favorite Waste of Time of the Week.”

Stay frugal yo’

Still can’t pull that off, can I?

Myles
