Scholarship Essay Entry – Adrienne W.

My name is Adrienne, I want to be a biochemist and learn about plant biochemistry and horticulture. I want to learn about plants chemically, herbal medicines and understand what happens when their environment is altered. After this, I want to evolve my studies to botany, to experience natural habitats, and to start my own research group. I want to travel uncharted forests to discover herbal medicines and to understand the balance between our needs and the needs of the ecosystem. I want to teach the world, in new ways, the value of nature and show and inspire easy ways of how to preserve it, respect it and indulge in it.

What has motivated me to go to school is the upset balance in the world, it seems many people have become or are becoming more detached with nature, especially the wilderness. Many people's concerns are of money, material or even just of survival. Money today is hard earned and easily spent on what is advertised. These things we are shown become quick to desire and distract us from the effects and damages we're causing, trying to obtain this material happiness. When I go to school, I want to learn about the effects we are having on our planet and help provide an alternative, one that can give people pride and will plant the desire in society to help reverse this downward spiral. I want to offer feasible, organic and nutritional food to families, grown from sustainable crops, rather than genetically altered, low nutritional crops that are commercially grown and chemically maintained. To achieve this dream I want to publicly and politically express my views. I want to encourage Reduce Reuse Recycle, and help change dependency on chemicals. I want to show how to embrace natural, organic lifestyles and present more power on environmental groups so their ideas can be taken more seriously.

This is my plan and all the while I will be looking for help and encouraging others to follow. And one day, if I have changed a few minds, changed a lifestyle or even converted a factory...

This will be my vision of making the world a better place.
