Scholarship Essay Entry – Angela P.

This September I will be starting my second year in the Accounting & Strategic Measurement Diploma at Grant MacEwan University. I will then be transferring to the Bachelor of Commerce with the Accounting Major program at Grant MacEwan. Throughout my first year in this program I have thought about where I want to take all this information that I am learning and what career I want to make out of it. There is accounting involved in every personal and business aspect of life. One career that really caught my interest was a Forensic Accountant. They look into the financial records of business and make sure that they are being responsible and honest with their money. I think that becoming this would help make my community and the world a better place. Businesses should be held accountable for their actions and be honest with their employees as well as the public. People invest in these companies and they need to know that their money is being spent appropriately. Making sure businesses do this would make everyone feel more confident in the businesses that they work for and the businesses that they invest in; especially now with the economic recession. People need to be reassured of what is going on internally. I feel that if everyone works together a lot more can be accomplished especially if everyone is straightforward. This is the business attitude that I have. I feel that everyone should take responsibility for their actions and admit to what they have done. Even if they had made a mistake it is better to own up to it. This is the attitude that I would bring with me into the workplace. I feel if everyone had a similar attitude businesses would function smoother. Also, I feel that I could lead by example with this attitude. Other people that may be hesitant would slowly change their business attitude after seeing the way that I have acted. I feel that I would influence the community around me to be a better place to work in.
