Scholarship Essay Entry – Josh B.

Dreams, ambitions, and visions can all be similar in meaning. To most, they format how one wants to see his or her life run or how they imagine how the world needs to run. The majority of people pursue these dreams to obtain them as fast as they can. Others let these dreams and visions come to them because they know it will become reality. As for my vision and dream, I need to make it happen.

The ambition I have for myself is to make my community a safer place to live in. To do this, police work is what I am looking into for as a career. Whenever I read about something or see something on the TV that has made the community uneasy, like murder or theft, I feel like I can help do something about it. Others may just say that it is unfortunate and go on with their lives. As for me, I believe that I can help make a difference. Becoming a police officer has always been one of my dream jobs where I knew I could make the world a better place without going overseas to fight in the military. Yes, there is a lot of work to be done in making the world a better place, but there is also a lot of work to be done in our own communities as well. Crime continues in our society and rather than just treat the symptoms, I believe that we need to prevent it by educating our communities and spending the time to support each other in making the places we live safe. This is my vision.

I believe that once we learn to make our own communities safe we can empower that vision to encompass our country and the world. The world needs to be made into a better place, but how will we do this is by working in our own communities to make them models of how we see the world needing to be. When our community is a better place to live, we can learn from it and use what we have learned to make our world a better place.
