Scholarship Essay Entry – Nick B.
Music is one of the few languages understood internationally. For me and my family, it is a vital part of daily life. Growing up, seeing my uncle and grandfather both playing guitar, I knew I was born to play. Throughout my young musical career in Strathmore, Alberta, I have been assisted in expanding my knowledge and playing abilities through the local music store. The owner always guided me down the right path as to what gear would complement my music the best, and always found connections for our teenage metal band.
I’m currently residing in Lethbridge, Alberta, and am entering my first year at the University of Lethbridge. Due to my passion in music, I plan on obtaining a Bachelors of Music, but because of how much I’ve been helped by small music stores, I’m also aspiring for a Bachelors of Management. Through these two degrees, I dream on opening my own small town music store, so I too can help young people looking to pick up a guitar for the first time.
As for right now, apart from preparing for school, I fill my time with work, music and looking into local charities which are in need of volunteers. In Strathmore, I tried to dedicate time to helping out at my high school in any way possible. Whether it was score keeping for sporting events, or helping set up for fundraisers or big events at the school, I tried to help out in any way I possibly could. I hope to continue to help out in the community in ways which seem substantial and meaningful to me and the people around me.
So whether it is today, or tomorrow, I vow to make a difference in the world around me. Whether it is helping at a shelter or selling the guitar to the next Jimi Hendrix and giving him the start he needs, I shall try to affect the world in any possible way and make a difference.
