Scholarship Essay Entry – Shaveta B.

Danny Thomas once said “Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others”. I want to achieve the same kind of success where I could be of use to help people with my knowledge, training and care.

I am Shaveta and I am a first year student for B.Sc. nursing at University Of Alberta.

My ambition is not just to be a nurse and pursue it as my career, but it is embracing the knowledge that I have gained by helping others in need especially women. Women hold and nurture the coming future of every nation in her womb and it is very important of her to be healthy and strong. But there are several problems that are working against the health of women; it could be from the things like breast cancer to maternal health. Nurses are trained to provide help to the sick people but in addition to this, I also want to make healthy women more aware of their body and help them understand about what is right for them and what is not. There is an organization called ‘Women for Women International’ that works in interest of the women in the same way as I have imagined. I want to work with that organization as a nurse or maybe someday even as a doctor. This will give me a really good opportunity where I could make my dreams of improving women health change into reality.

However change cannot be made by a split of a second. It needs time, training and ability for making a change for good. And I am willing to put every second of my life in order to gain that ability by which I could help women and other people to live strongly. I will start from working in a rural area where the most help is needed and will make my dreams bigger and bigger so that I could continue myself for working in favour of people’s health and life.
